Leo is one of many new friends who inspired me today. He sat down by me on Mary Beth and Ben’s front steps as I was drawing, and we got neck-deep in conversation. When he told me so emphatically how truly I had “gotten” these people – his family – and especially the way in which Mommom (figure in the hat; his grandmother) was “holding court” – I told him honestly that he had given me the highest possible praise.
I’m brimming with gratitude. Thank you to everyone, including little Amelie who informed me that she couldn’t recognize anyone without color. Thank you to this whole family, who gave me big belly-laughs when I told them I couldn’t pay for better models.
