I have filled countless sketchbooks, especially since quarantine began, but I’ll probably never stop feeling sentimental about saying goodbye…as I am now, with a sketch made in less than twenty minutes, staring back at my reflection from the emptiness of a one-person Zoom which I’d joined a bit ahead of schedule.
This hardcover treasure has seen triumphs and trials, and it has been my unfailing ally in my most shameful fits of terror. (In moments of panic, my mind considers [2] fight, [3] flight, and [1] art.]
Take my wallet, cut in front of me in a line, chop off my braid, with less fear than you ought to feel if you ever have the gall to stand between me and free, creative expression.
