(24″ x 18″, Charcoal)
This is a charcoal study of a reclining female figure, completed as part of a Figure Drawing class at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The woman is a nude model hired by the university.
In order to best portray my model, I focused on capturing the gesture of her position rather than perfectly replicating it. Minimal strokes were used to capture the most essential curves of her body and environment. These strokes were controlled but quick in order to produce a dynamic effect. Finally, I established the contours of my model’s figure with subtle suggestions of light and shadow.
